2008 Autocross Rules
Rules changes for 2008 in italics.
General Rules
- All 2008 SCCA Solo Rules [PDF] apply.
- Car classification will be based on 2008 SCCA Solo Rules [PDF].
- 95dba noise limit at perimeter of site.
- Participants must complete a work assignment to get credit for event.
- The 2008 PAX index will be used to determine a trophy for a class made up of all single cars. Drivers without other competitors in their class will still receive 1st place SCAC points.
- Fun runs (non-competition runs on course) will be available at the end of most events for $1 per run. Only registered drivers in registered, inspected cars may drive in fun runs.
Fairway Subaru South Carolina Autocross Championship Rules
- The Fairway Subaru SCAC is a nine event points-based championship to determine the best autocrossers in South Carolina. Anyone may participate and earn points in any event, regardless of membership status.
- All drivers must display the official Fairway Subaru SCAC decal on BOTH sides of their car. Decals are available at the merchandise tent, and cost $3.00/pair or $5.00/pair with magnetic backing. This will be checked both at tech inspection and grid. The 2008 decals will be the same as the 2007 decals. Drivers who already own decals will not need to repurchase them.
- Drivers must compete in at least five (5) of the nine (9) Fairway Subaru SCAC points events to be eligible for a championship.
- Each driver's two worst points events will be dropped from their points total. This can include any events the driver did not attend.
- Points will be assigned as follows: 1st - 10, 2nd - 8, 3rd - 6, 4th - 5, 5th - 4, 6th - 3, 7th - 2, 8th - 1.
- In the Event of a season points tie, number of wins is used as a tiebreaker. If the competitors have the same number of wins, then number of 2nd place finishes will be counted, and so on. If there is still a tie the person who got the best finish first is the winner.
Event Conduct
- Safety must be the first priority for all participants. Anyone who is reckless or out of control while driving on course, purposefully or otherwise, will be removed from the event. This rule applies to competition runs and especially to fun runs.
- All participants are expected to act in a sportsmanlike manner. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
- Any participant seen speeding or driving dangerously on or around the site shall be disqualified. Drivers are responsible for their crews and friends. This means if a driver's friend, mom, dad, brother, sister, etc. speeds or drives dangerously, the driver is disqualified. There will be no refund for a disqualified driver.
- All participants will remove all trash from their areas. Drivers leaving trash behind will be disqualified.
Passengers
- Passengers must be at least 12 years of age. Passengers under the age of 18 must have a minor waiver signed by BOTH parents, just as if they were driving.
- Passengers must wear a helmet and seat belt, and keep arms and hands inside the vehicle during the run.
- Only one passenger is allowed in the car at a time.
- Passengers are allowed during fun runs.
- Passengers are allowed during competition runs under the following circumstances:
- If the passenger is not a registered competitor.
- If the passenger has completed all of his or her competition runs.
- If the passenger is registered as a "Novice" and is riding with an instructor. Novice drivers may ride along at any time during the event with an instructor from the Pro class.
- Pro class is considered to be an "instructor" group. Participants in this class are allowed to ride along with another driver at any time during the event, provided all safety guidelines are followed and the intent of taking the passenger is driver improvement.
Car Numbers
- All drivers must display, on both sides of the car, car numbers at least 8" high and class letters at least 4" high.
- Shoe polish/glass chalk numbers are not permitted.
- Number/class designation must match exactly what is entered in the computer at registration for the driver(this includes 2-driver cars).
- Automotive-grade painter's tape will be provided at tech inspection for drivers who do not
have vinyl, magnetic, or permanent numbers that comply with these rules. Magnetic "LED" pieces
are available at merchandise ($0.50 for large pieces, $0.25 for small pieces) and make very nice sets of numbers
and class letters. In addition, affordable, custom-made vinyl and magnetic numbers are available from the following locations:
- Panic Motorsports (SCR-SCCA members!)
- Solo Performance Specialties
Novices
- Any driver with less than one year of autocross experience may choose (but is not required) to register as a novice.
- Novice results will be determined by the 2008 PAX index for event trophies only. There is no Novice points championship. However, Novice drivers will still earn championship points for their regular classes even while they are designated as Novices.
- Once a Novice driver earns a first or second place trophy, they "graduate" to their regular class and are no longer eligible for Novice.
- A Novice driver may ride along at any time during the event with an instructor from the Pro class.
Pro Class
- Pro is a PAX class open to cars of any class whose drivers wish to participate against the top drivers in SCR.
- Pro results will be determined by the 2008 PAX index.
- Pro class is considered to be an "instructor" group. Participants in this class are allowed to ride along with another driver at any time during the event, provided all safety guidelines are followed and the intent of taking the passenger is driver improvement.
Street Tire PAX Class
- Street Tire is a PAX class open to cars of any class (except those listed below) that are participating on street tires.
- Street Tire results will be determined by the 2008 PAX index.
- No "R" compound tires are to be run in Street Tire. Tires must have a minimum tread wear rating of 140. In addition, any specific tire models listed by the SCCA Solo Events Board as ineligible for SCCA Street Touring will also be ruled ineligible for Street Tire.
- Due to the fact that this is a street tire class and the PAX index accounts for the use of street tires in STS, STS2, STX, and STU, these classes may not be run in Street Tire. It is recommended that competitors in these classes either run the correct Street Prepared class for their car or run in an open Street Touring class.
Annual Tech Inspections
- To be eligible for annual tech, drivers must be full SCCA members with at least three years' autocross experience.
- Annual tech means that you, the driver, accept responsibility for inspecting your own car.
- You will receive an annual tech card that must be presented at registration at all SCR autocrosses. This will enable you to bypass regular event tech.
- The event chairman or safety stewards reserve the right to reinspect any car at any time, regardless of annual tech status.
- All drivers must purchase the official championship decals prior to receiving an annual tech.
- Any car that has a major mechanical failure or undergoes a major modification must be reinspected.
- Central Carolinas Region and North Carolina Region annual tech inspections will be accepted (driver must present annual tech card at registration).
